THE INITIAL BANKRUPTCY CONSULTATION
What you will need to bring to the initial consultation
In order to make the most of your initial consultation, you will need to bring your most recent federal tax return, a list of the debts that you owe and the outstanding balanced owed on each obligation, and any pleadings from any lawsuits that you are party to. Copies of the pleadings are extremely important in determining the filing date and may assist in stopping a foreclosure or a garnishment from going into effect.
You will also need to know what your gross income has been for the last 6 months as well as the gross income for any other member of your household for over the last six months. For the purpose of filing bankruptcy, a member of your household can be considered your current spouse, children, parents, or significant others that are living with you at the time of your filing. If you are unable to ascertain your income for the last six months, please bring at least the last two months worth of pay stubs with you to the initial consultation.

What you will need to know
During the initial consultation, we will be going through a questionnaire that allows me to better understand your current finances. To assist in determining if you qualify for a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13, you will need to know approximately how many creditors you have, the total amount of debt that you owe, and the last time you either used a credit card, took a cash advanced or incurred a new debt.
For the asset section of the questionnaire, you will need to know the year, make, and model of any automobile or motorcycle that you own and the balance remaining on the loan, if any. If you own a piece of real property (either a piece of undeveloped land, a residence, or a timeshare) you will need to know the year that your purchased the real property, the approximate fair market value of the property, the outstanding balances owed on a mortgages or home equity loans encumbering the property, and the monthly payments due on each obligation.
Lastly you will need to know whether or not your have any co-debtors or whether you jointly own any assets with any individual not filing bankruptcy.
After the financial questionnaire is completed, I will be able to inform you as to whether or not you qualify for a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy or a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. The remaining part of the consultation will be dedicated to discussing with the client the requirements needed to be met in order to receive a Discharge of Debtor; what can be expected from you as the Debtor during the Bankruptcy; what is entailed in filing for relief under the United States Bankruptcy Code; and answering any questions that you may have as the Debtor. At the end of the consultation, I will present you with several pieces of literature for your review and a Retainer Agreement detailing the services provided to you by the Law Offices of Rebecca Mayo Goodrich.
